Vulture Vista Ultra – Year 2
Welcome back, intrepid runners – and a special welcome to our new adventurers!
The Vulture Vista Ultra returns for its second year, building on the success of our inaugural race in 2024. Last year, we welcomed over 60 participants from across multiple states, and this year, we’re thrilled to make the event even more inclusive by introducing a 4.5-mile race for runners of all abilities. Whether you're new to trail running or a seasoned ultra competitor, there's a challenge waiting for you at Vulture Vista!
Why Vulture Vista?
This isn't your typical race. The course winds through the DePauw Nature Park, once a bustling limestone quarry from 1917 to 1977. Today, this reclaimed land blends rich history with breathtaking scenery, featuring lush greenery, diverse wildlife, and dramatic quarry cliffs where turkey vultures glide on thermals above.
Imagine standing where limestone was blasted and transported, retracing the footsteps of those who shaped the land. As you run, you'll pass remnants of the past—foundations, ponds, and the dramatic cliffs—each telling a story of resilience and transformation.
Choose Your Challenge
This year, we offer options for runners of all experience levels:
The Classic Ultra Challenges:6-hour or 12-hour events on a demanding 4.5-mile loop, where participants aim to complete as many laps as possible. Run solo or as part of a relay team (up to 4 runners).
The 4.5-Mile Race: A single loop designed for those looking for a shorter, yet equally rewarding experience. Perfect for new trail runners, families, or anyone wanting to soak in the park’s beauty without the long hours.
The Community Impact
By participating, you're not only challenging yourself but also supporting two incredible local non-profits:
Putnam County Parks and Pathways
AKC: A Kinetic Change
Your effort helps create outdoor activities and develop trails, contributing to a healthier, more vibrant community here in Putnam County.
What to Expect
2 Aid Stations: Stocked with ultra favorites and Tailwind to keep you fueled.Crew Support Area: A designated spot at the start/finish line for your crew or self-support setup. An Inclusive Atmosphere: Whether you're aiming for personal bests or simply enjoying a day outdoors, there’s a place for you at Vulture Vista. Are you ready?
