Short review
In honor of National Parkinson’s Awareness Month, Running for Parkinson's, a local 501c3 organization, will be hosting a virtual 5k run/walk and a virtual 1 mile walk throughout the entire month of April 2020! This is our first Virtual Run/Walk so we are very pleased to give you this opportunity! This event will benefit our local Parkinson Partners of Northwestern Pa. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a degenerative, progressive disorder that affects nerve cells in deep parts of the brain. PD symptoms include tremors, slowness of movement, stiffness, and balance problems.
This year we think it is especially important to raise awareness about Parkinson's Disease and overall health. The Michael J Fox Foundation says one of the most powerful treatments in the fight against PD is exercise [link]. Running For Parkinson's Founder Angela Badaracco, a runner, and mother of 4 was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's Disease. About a decade ago Angela decided to use her diagnosis as a tool to help people like her become active while raising money and awareness in the fight against PD.
In light of recent events we have all become more aware of measures we can take in our own lives to improve our health and take care of one another. Please join us this month to strengthen our bodies, our immune systems, and doing so while raising awareness in this important fight against Parkinson's Disease.
When: Entire Month of April through May 15th 2020
Where: Traditionally we have set the 5k race to begin and end at the Rotary Pavilion in Presque Isle State Park. The Virtual Race allows you the flexibility to participate anywhere. So feel free to run our tradition spot on beautiful Presque Isle or in your own neighborhood.
How: Sign up for the race below and during the month we will send you reminders to get out there and race, log your time, and report it back to us. Consider using a GPS watch or app on your iPhone or Android to record your run and to provide results to us. Some popular apps include Nike Run Club, FitBit, Map My Run and more. Just make sure it tracks your distance and time.
All timing for the virtual run is tracked by user submission. Click the Submit Your Time button to submit your results
