Short review
Second Sole Racing presents the Heat Wave 5K taking place on Sunday, August 23rd, 2020 at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Covid-19 has created a challenging season for road races - causing months of cancellations. With recent guidelines released by the State of Ohio for non-contact sports, Second Sole Racing is now able to host this socially-distanced race.
Second Sole Racing has the support of both the Mahoning County Health Department and the Canfield Fairgrounds who have approved the event.
Please note that this event is subject to change to a virtual 5K if Mahoning County moves to level 3 (red) based upon the Covid-19 advisory system. This may occur any day leading up to the race. If this occurs, no refunds will be issued. Due to predetermined event costs including shirts, packet stuffing, and race-day preparation and insurance all participant registrations will be moved to a virtual option. Participants will be notified if this takes place.The 5K will start and finish within the fairgrounds. Participants will run the first 1.5 miles through the fairgrounds passing attractions such as the train, big rock, and horse barns before exiting the fairgrounds to complete the final 1.5 miles. Participants will finish back inside the fairgrounds in front of the newly constructed Junior Fair building. The course utilizes both paved and well-kept gravel roads.
Due to safety regulations, the race will take place in multiple heats throughout the morning starting at 6:30am with the last heat at 8:30am. Full details can be found on the FAQ page by clicking HERE.
Those not comfortable with racing in person can also choose a virtual option (Virtual registration option is available by clicking HERE).
A portion of the proceeds will be donated towards the Canfield Fairgrounds for their continued support to host events.
