Groundhog Day 5K 2019

Short review

A 5K in the spirit of the movie Groundhog Day!

PLEASE READ TO UNDERSTAND THE FORMAT OF THE RACE. THIS IS NOT A TEAM RELAY EVENT. YOU WILL RUN INDIVIDUALLY A TOTAL OF 5,000 METERS (5K) AS FOLLOWS:

Each runner will individually complete a 5K in SEGMENTS of 833 meters. That is to say that you start the race by running 833 meters (roughly a half mile). You stop and wait until the last person in your "group" finishes. The entire group waits and then you run 833 again. You will repeat this a total of 6 times. We will take each of your times from each of the 833 meters and add it together to calculate your final 5K finisher time. Groups will be made up of people with similar pace per mile times. For example Group A would be made up of runners who average between 5 mins per mile and 7 mins per mile. Group B would be made up of runners who average 7 mins per mile to 9 mins per mile. So on and so forth. We expect to have 4 groups or "heats" on race morning. You will be placed in a group and given a starting time for your group.Remember this is NOT a team event. You will run 833 meters then rest a total of SIX times. It will be like doing a 6x833 meter workout with some rest between each interval.

This is a LIMITED EXPERIENCE!

Course
The race will be entirely inside the area of Lock 3. Each loop around Lock 3 is 416 meters. You will run it twice for each heat which equates to 833 meters. Then we will repeat it 5 more times. Strategy plays a huge part if you are racing!

Awards
All finishers will receive a special finisher medal. The top 3 men and women in the following age groups will receive an award: 1-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+

Results, Refreshments, and the MOVIE
We will be playing the movie Groundhog Day continuously throughout the day.

BEER - Each participant will receive ONE free beer courtesy of Crazy Mountain Brewing Company. Additional drinks and food will be available for sale throughout the morning.

Come early and stay late to enjoy the atmosphere of the day! Results will be updated periodically throughout the morning. Final results will be posted AFTER the last heat of the day. Awards will be available for pickup if you choose not to stay for the morning.
