Short review
Dawson's Circle of Hope is a memorial 5K that benefits childhood cancer research. Dawson Creager was a student at Geneva Elementary School when he was diagnosed with childhood cancer in 2010 at the age of 11. Dawson's treatment options were limited, as are all treatment options for children fighting cancer, and after a two and and a half year battle, Dawson died on April 4, 2013, at the age of 13. Cancer is the #1 cause of death by disease for children ages 0-18. It surpasses Asthma, Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis, Congenital Anomalies, and AIDS combined. The Federal Government spends billions on cancer research each year but less than 4% of that is spent on pediatric cancer research. It is the mission of Dawson's Circle of Hope to educate and increase awareness about the realities of childhood cancer, while encouraging others to do the same, and provide funding for research so that better treatment options, and ultimately a cure can be found.
