Our Covid-19 Plans for 2021

Masks:  As the mask mandate has loosened up we are still are currently having all our activities outdoors.  If you are comfortable wearing a mask or not, we invite you all to join us.  Please come an participate as you feel comfortable.

We have worked out plans with guidance from the Kent County Health Department and Metro Health Sports Medicine that are designed to provide you with a safe experience. We are excited to provide our community with an in-person race experience. Be sure to read our plans below before you register.

We will have outdoor, packet pick-up and registration at Legacy Christian School's soccer field. To keep everyone spread out, participants will be registering to participate in time blocks of 10 minutes. Currently, 250 people are allowed per time block; however, Covid-19 conditions have improve. So if you want to start with the first wave at 8:35am, you are welcome to do so. We will be using chip timing, allowing participants to compete against the entire field of participants, not just those who are in their wave.  If you are competing for prize money then your gun time will be your official time.  The gun for the 5k running portion will start at 8:35am.  Our start and finish lines are in a common spot but are staged on a five lane road that will allow us to keep starting athletes and finishing athletes socially distanced from each other.  Start corrals will be spread out by paces and finishing athletes will be led directly out of the area to keep them spread out.  We ask that masks be worn at the start and finish lines or any time you are not running.  Water stations will be self serve. Post race refreshments will be pre-packaged grab and go set up.

We are offering a virtual option for those who are not able to participate in person, make sure to select "view all" and scroll all the way down to locate it as a registration option.  Virtual participants will not be eligible for awards but will receive their race shirts and bibs.

More 2021 Details:

The t-shirt order were be placed on May 31.  Athletes registering after May 31 will not be guaranteed a race shirt, but can come on race day to have a chance to get a shirt on a first come, first serve basis.

The Junior Jog and Steeplechase will be held on the Legacy Christian School's soccer field as always, but this year we will have a rolling start beginning at 10:30 am.  There will be a staging area and we will start smaller groups in waves.  We will also have a separate start and finish line, outdoor registration area, and grab and go snacks.

Changes from years past:

We are going to have a couple bands and music along our course this year, it will look different from years past but should provide you with entertainment along the course.  Our goals in this event are to provide a great experience for our community of runners, as well as support the charities that are near and dear to our heart.  Thank you for joining us!

Elite Heat:

If you want to start in the Elite Heat and plan to run 19 minutes or faster for the 5k, you can register for any of the start heats and then contact Rob Hyde at robhyde@diemerrun.com .  Space will be limited so first come, first serve.  See prize money for the breakdown of this year's prize purse.

Cancellation Policy:

In the event of severe weather, we will delay and still hold the event safely if possible. Then resume given we have time before roads need to be open to traffic again at 10:30 am. We will cancel our event if severe weather threatens the safety of our participants and it is clear delaying is not an option; sorry-no refunds.

If Covid-19 conditions are at an unsafe level we will also cancel the live 2021 event.  No deferrals, but we will make the event virtual.  Again, our plan is to put on a live event and we will doing everything we can to make sure this happens.
