Short review

The 5th Annual Veterans and First Responders Memorial 5k run/walk and Memorial Mile run/walk helps raise funds for the Southern Arizona Veterans and First Responders Living Memorial at Naranja Park.  The memorial will be a place where people can go and reflect; they can honor their forefathers, grandfathers, grandmothers, aunts and uncles – whoever served. It will be an opportunity for education about veterans as well as first responders – they are equals in this memorial.

All participants who sign up by April 30, 2021, will receive an event shirt. Everyone will receive a custom race bib (sponsored by Fleet Feet) and a custom finisher's keychain.

Awards

5k Awards (Trail and Run divisions) will be given to the Top Three Male and Female overall winners, as well as gift certificates from Fleet Feet.

Medallions will also be given to the Top Three Male and Female in each Age Group. Age groups are: <14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; 80>.

Awards will be available for pick up at the Oro Valley Fleet Feet beginning at noon on Saturday, May 15. We will announce all winners on Facebook Live. There will be no awards ceremony at the venue.

COVID-19 AND RACING

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and the need to adhere to CDC and local government guidelines to maintain social distancing, we will use wave starts to spread out runners on the course. You will be able to choose your start time during registration. Once a time slot is filled, it's filled. No exceptions. We will allow 20 participants to the start field at a time.

Start Time Slots

When registering, participants will be asked to select a start time slot - WAVES.

Waves for the road race will start at 0630 and go off every 5 minutes until 0710.

Waves for the trail race will start at 0715 and go off every 5 minutes until 0755.

If you miss your wave, you cannot start in the next wave. You will have to wait until all waves in your division have started to begin your race. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Participants must be lined up at one of the start cones BEFORE beginning their race.  There is a limit of 20 starting positions available for each starting time slot and they are available on a first come, first serve basis.  In order to maintain safe distancing on the race course, participants must start during their selected starting time slot.  If a particular starting time is not available it means it has reached the maximum number of participants for that time slot.  Please do not ask us to make any exceptions, because we will not.

PARTICIPANTS ARE ASKED TO ARRIVE AT THE RACE VENUE NO MORE THAN 20 MINUTES BEFORE THEIR OFFICIAL START TIME.

Race Course

The road race will be held entirely entirely on the pedestrian path on Tangerine and the short dirt road leading in and out of the park to the north.

The trail race will be held entirely within the Naranja Park and will utilized most of the archery course.

The memorial mile is a walk up the dirt road to the turnaround and then back down.
