Straight Street Hill Climb 2020

Short review

Update: November 11, 2020

Due to a combination of covid 19 restrictions and other City requirements, I regret to inform you that there will not be a 2020 Straight Street Hill Climb. 
We worked to negotiate a modified plan that would be safe and achievable for all involved but that did not work out.
We are all hoping for a brighter 2021 and we hope to resume the  Hill Climb next November.

The Details below have not been updated for 2020.

A .36 mile assault on one of Cincinnati's steepest inclines. The Straight Street Hill Climb is two minutes of self-inflicted torture.

2019 will be the 43rd anniversary of the run started by the Clifton Track Club.

There are Three events. The First event is the Classic Run event. A Bike race and Duathlon (Run and Bike) were added in recent years and have boosted the number of competitors participating. The Straight Street Duathlon is the Worlds Shortest Duathlon (as far as we know) !

You can Pick One event, two events or if you are really a "glutton for punishment", do all three events.

The Rucking category was added in 2018 for those who need   "extra punishment".

Course Description:

Check in at the top of the hill, at the corner of University Court and Straight Street. You will need to walk down the hill to the Start.

All races begin at the bottom of the hill, at McMicken, and proceed up the .36 mile course. See course map below.

Strategy:

Strategy for completing the Hill Climb: Keep breathing and don't pass out.

Previous competitors have recommended drinking cold Wiedemann's Fine Beer after the event to revive yourself after the climb.

Spectator Tips:

Spectators are encouraged to line the street near the top of the hill to cheer on the finishers as they make their baby steps toward the end.

Miscellaneous Info:

ARRIVE EARLY. Races begin at 9 a.m. sharp and there is always a back up at the registration table. YOU are responsible for getting yourself to the bottom of the hill for the start. Check in at the top of the hill, at the corner of University Court and Straight Street.

Race Shirts:

Classy Technical Shirts are optional and available in Short-Sleeved or Long-Sleeved editions for only $10 or $15 respectively.

.36 Stickers:

Get your own .36 oval stickers for only $3 each. 

Divisions:

Male and Female age divisions: 12 and Under, 13-19, 20-34, 35-50, 50 and over (Masters)

Clydesdale Divisions: An alternative to age divisions. Based on weight, not age: Half-Barrel division for Males 200+ lbs; Pony-barrel division for females 160+ lbs. Clydesdale participants will be excluded from age-based awards.

Awards:

There are numerous awards for each event including Age Divisions and Clydesdale Divisions.

Post-Race Activities:

Awards Ceremony, Post-race Cookout, Wiedemann sipping, and more. 

Pre-registration:

$15 for one event. $20 for two or three events. 

Race Day Registration:

$20. Race day registration and packet pick up will take place from 7:30 - 8:45 at the venue.
