Run for the Flag Virtual 5K 2020

Short review

Run for the Flag Virtual 5K is to support Courtney in her Girl Scout Gold Award project to replace and update the flag pole at Sugar Hollow Girl Scout Camp in Crozet, VA.  The current flag pole at Sugar Hollow Day Camp is rusted, crooked, and quickly deteriorating.  Since the opening and closing of Girl Scout activities centers around a proper flag ceremony, Courtney has made this upgrade the center of her Gold Award project.  A commercial flag pole and proper installation is very expensive, so the Virtual 5K idea was created to help her replace this important piece of Girl Scout tradition.

Run for the Flag Virtual 5K is a fun, family friendly activity that can be run (or walked) from any location and at any time you choose during the race period, even on a treadmill in your home!  The registration period begins 6/10 and ends 6/30.  You can race anytime between 7/3 and 7/5.

How to participate: Register on our website.  If you are unable to participate, I am also taking voluntary donations.   Share on social media that you’re participating in the 5K and encourage others to join in.  I chose to have the virtual race over Independence Day so we can all celebrate our patriotism and our love for our country. Hike, walk or run between July 3 and July 5.  A 5K is 16,404 feet, but please feel free to go any distance that makes sense for you around your neighborhood, backyard or living room.  Make sure to follow local health guidelines and maintain proper social distancing.  Wear your t-shirt!  Show your pride.  Share photos with us on social media using #RunfortheFlag5K Return to the website and record your time and upload your pictures!  All participants will be celebrated so this race is not a competition.   Celebrate your participation. Celebrate that you made an important difference by sharing photos before, during and after using the social media hashtags.  Continue to follow Courtney's Gold Award completion on Facebook and social media. Anyone, any age can participate. Each registration receives a participation medal and patriotic thank you gift!
