Short review
9th Annual Riverside Dash is back!!
For 2021, we have moved the traditional April race date to September 12, 2021 due to COVID-19. After a disappointing cancellation of the live race last year, we were hoping for a race date that would be free from any remaining challenges with the pandemic. While we still face challenges in a return to normalcy, we are still approved to have this event.
August 2021 UPDATE - At this time, there are no COVID restrictions in place for any of the running events or in the staging area.
Riverside Dash 15K, 5K and Kids Dash is a premier footrace destination for serious runners and those who simply enjoy distance running. Featuring a series of races, the Riverside Dash is a place where personal records are set on the flat, fast course through beautiful scenery. No other race offers a unique opportunity to run along the mighty St. John’s River on roads that are unavailable to runners at any given time. The flat and fast course allows you to push yourself, making sure you accomplish greatness in a great race.
The Riverside Dash will include the 15K race – the only one in Seminole County – and the 5K race. Other activities include the Kids Dash, award ceremony and display booths. Bring the entire family and make a trip of it, exploring historic Sanford and the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens after the event.
The highlight of the Riverside Dash is the 15K Course. The 15K course takes long-distance runners along U.S. Highway 17-92 on a newly constructed trail along Lake Monroe and the St. Johns River. You’ll weave through unique Florida ecosystems, spotting dozens of types of birds and other wildlife along the way. There is no elevation on this route allowing runners to set personal records and prepare for upcoming half and full marathons. After spending time on the scenic highway, the route shifts into history, traveling along the historic Sanford waterfronts, once a major port for Central Florida and through the historic shopping district in downtown Sanford. Because of street closures, the City of Sanford is asking that 15K participants have a maximum 15 minute per mile pace. After this time, runners will be asked to move to the sidewalks.
The 5K Course is a great opportunity for the leisure runner/walker to compete on a great course as it weaves through historic downtown Sanford and along the lakefront of Lake Monroe. Sanford is one of Central Florida’s oldest cities and was once the largest city in the area. Along the route, runners will pass by buildings that are more than 125 years old and still being used today. Runners will also travel along the waterfront district and marina, a popular spot for runners on any day.
