Short review
The purpose of Run the Gates is to provide funding for the following activities:
· Handicapped Crusaders – Provide social activities for physically and mentally challenged adults through monthly get togethers, participation in crafts and games, listening to guest speakers, and interacting with one another in a variety of other activities.
· Delta Community Supports, Inc. – Supports men and women with developmental/intellectual disabilities as well as children and families in need of foster care and adoptions services. Delta's mission is to enrich the lives of individuals and families through outstanding community-based supports and mutually rewarding relationships.
· The Center for Independent Living of Bucks County (CILBC) is a nonprofit, charitable corporation chartered to promote the well-being and independence of disabled children and adults throughout Bucks County by providing scholarships to students at Bucks County Community College, facilitating peer group interaction, providing information and referral and independent living skill training.
Proceeds from the event are split evenly among these three organizations.
Run the Gates is an officially sanctioned Bucks County Roadrunner event. We are also co-sponsored by and one of a host of activities offered by the Middletown Township Department of Parks and Recreation. These two organizations have been with us since we made the move to Forsythia Crossing Park and we could not pull this event off without them.
Run the Gates prides itself on our stadium-style event for spectators and families. The runners start, run through, and finish in Forsythia Crossing Park — shielded from all traffic. The RTG crew, in a few hours, transforms this normally tranquil venue into a true athletic arena. They then leave no trace and restore it to its pre-race splendor.
The committee owes a debt of gratitude to the Middletown Township Department of Parks and Recreation and their dedicated staff and workers who each year help us plan and provide us with logistical support. We also want to express our appreciation to the Penndel-Middletown Rescue Squad for providing us with an emergency crew for the duration of the event.
