Short review

On your...barks, get set, go! Welcome to the second annual rendition of "Not Your Average Virtual Race!" The race is put on by Embarc, a running tech startup that generates custom running routes based on a runner's elevation gain, distance, and starting location preferences. Embarc’s route generating technology helps provide each runner with a course of a similar difficulty level—making the virtual race uniquely competitive!  Finally, by signing up, you will be supporting the Life of Hope Foundation, a dog rescue organization that saves dogs from the streets of Taiwan and matches them with loving American families.  You will also receive a medal, a new and improved 100% polyester t-shirt, and a race bib (you can see pictures of all in the registration!).

What is your average Virtual Race?

A virtual race is one that you run or walk on your own, at any time of day. Most virtual races allow you to run the race on any course in any place you like—we’re a bit different and we’ll get to that next.

Why is this race "Not Your Average Virtual Race?”

Most virtual "races" are not really all that competitive. The runner with the easiest course is at a significant advantage to other racers. Our race aims to level the playing field by providing each runner with a course of a similar difficulty level, regardless of their location. You’ll let us know where you'll be starting, and our app will generate multiple race course options for you based on the race's course parameters in seconds. The course parameters for this years race include: moderate elevation gain and non-trail terrain, to the extent that that is possible in your community.  This way, you’ll see how you truly stack up against the other racers!

What Do I Get? A race day bib (wearing it is optional, but fun)!A finisher's certificate! The satisfaction of helping to give street dogs a second chance at a great life!($35 Option Only) A finisher's medal to commemorate your achievement!($35 Option Only) A new and improved 100% polyester shirt with the race's logo! How far do I run?

It depends on your race distance. We are offering a 5K and 10K option.  You must track your run on your smartphone via the free route generation and navigation app "Embarc." We hope that you'll stick around and incorporate our app into your running routine after the race, too!

Who can participate?

Anyone! That’s the beauty of virtual races.

What do I do after I finish my race?

Smile and hydrate! The Embarc app automatically stops and submits your run to our in-app leaderboard upon the completion of the race. Don't worry, our team will update the RunSignUp page at the end of each day so you can show off to your friends.

Do I get a medal? A shirt? A bib? A post-race donut?

Yes, yes, yes, and you’re on your own for that one. You’ll receive an email shortly after registering containing your downloadable, printable, tape it to your shirt-able custom race bib. We will send out a medal and a shirt to all of our finishers within a few weeks of the race ending. A post-race donut is highly encouraged, but we cannot send you one of those without risking spoilage.

How long do I have to finish the race?

The Race Period will begin on Friday, June 4 at 5:00 AM EDT and end Friday, June 11th, at 11:59 PM EDT.  You can run and submit your race any time during this period. You must complete the distance you signed up for, and you have to do it within the Race Period.
