Short review
The Jekyll Island Marathon (JIM) team takes great pride and commitment in producing a fun, exciting, and safe event. As you can imagine the organizing of JIM starts before the current one is complete. Due to the pandemic the amount of time that is required to organize a top quality in person event was severely impacted. Because of this we’ve made the decision to organize the 2021 JIM as a virtual event.
We know this is the not the decision that everyone was hoping for. However, we felt that we could not hold an in-person event to the level that all of us have come to expect given the timeline that was available to us. Both of our mothers use to admonish us with the saying “haste makes waste” if we tried to rush through our chores or homework. The lesson being that you’re going to miss something if you try to barrel through the task at hand and miss the details. Haste and waste is something we do not believe in or want when organizing our events.
We know there is virtual run fatigue but we do hope that you’ll register for the 2021 JIM. Participants that register for JIM will still receive a long-sleeved race shirt and event specific medal. Our goal is to mail all packets so you receive your items before race-weekend. Runners can still choose to run either the 10k, 13.1, or 26.2 distance. We will not be collecting times but encourage you to post your race-weekend pictures on our JIM Facebook page.
Also, any runner that registers for the 2021 event will have their name put into a raffle to win one entry and hotel accommodations for the 2022 JIM. All 2021 registrants will also receive early bird pricing before the registration opens to the general public.
Since the inaugural JIM the event has become the destination race in Southeast Georgia and that would not be possible without all of you. While we won’t see each other in 2021 we’re already working on 2022 and how we can continue to produce the type of event you’ve come to expect.
Keep running and stay safe.

2020 race information is below:
It is the only 26.2 run being held on any of the Georgia barrier islands. Considered the “Jewel” of Georgia, Jekyll Island is the ideal location to host the JIM. The JIM course will take runners through the Jekyll Island Club National Historic Landmark. The landmark is comprised of 34 historic landmarks. The course will also showcase the natural beauty of the island. Runners will pass under the canopies of the majestic live oaks and wide open beaches. Recently built boardwalks will provide runners with beautiful vistas that will make the miles fly by.
The Jekyll Island 10k course will include similar features of the Turtle Crawl 10k course. It will be flat and fast.
