About the Crystal Theatre: Built in 1921 as a Vaudeville theatre, the Crystal Theatre was remodeled in 1931 and was inspired by Tulsa’s Ritz Theatre, with floating clouds, twinkling stars, stained glass lights and cut-velvet upholstered seats. With its balcony and orchestra pit, the Crystal Theatre is one of very few historical theatres left in the State of Oklahoma. Most of the original Vaudeville theatres have been smothered into extinction by the multi-screen theatres sprouting up in malls across America.
While many towns are losing their theaters, the CIA (Community Improvement Association) has taken the initiative to keep the Historic Crystal Theatre in good repair. The Crystal is also home to many performers during the Woody Guthrie Celebration each July. The Crystal 5K and Fun Run is another step in the process of restoring and keeping this historic theatrical landmark alive. All proceeds of the Crystal 5K and Fun Run will go toward this goal.
Packet pick-up will be on the morning of the run starting at 9:30 at Citizens State Bank (across the street from the Crystal Theatre).
