The Sweet Treats 5K is our first race of the new McDowell Race Series. More information on the race series is below or visit the McDowell Race Series Facebook page.

The Sweet Treats 5K will take participants throughout downtown Marion end at the Sweet Treats of the Carolinas Festival. 

General Info

All race participants from the 5k will receive race specific finisher medals, sweet race shirts, and an AMAZING sweet treat at the finish line.

Packet Pick Up:

Friday April 19th from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Crooked Door Coffee Shop in Marion NC.

Saturday April 20th from 7:00 to 8:30 AM at the Tailgate Market in Marion, NC.

Late Registration:

There will be race day registration if the race does not sell out in advance. Every year this 5K has sold weeks in advance.

Race Caps:
The 5K is capped at 300 runners.

Refunds and Transfers

There are no refunds if you are unable to attend. You may transfer your spot to someone else if needed. If you are unable to make it to packet pick up, we will not hold or mail your packet.

Sweet Treats 5K:

Saturday April 20st at 9:00 AM (Starts at the Marion Tailgate Market)

Water and Bathrooms:

There will be a water station at the halfway point for the 5k.

There will be bathrooms available at the Tailgate Market or on Main Street at the Festival.

Overall and Age Group Awards:

The award ceremony will be held after the race.

5K Age Groups

Age groups will be in 10 year increments:

(3-9)(10-18) (19-29) (30-39) (40-49) (50-59) (60-69) (70+)

Participants Sweet TreatTable and Finisher Medals:

You will receive a finisher medal and sweet treat at the finish line. Be sure you receive your free sweet treat right after the finish line on West Court Street. You must present your bib tab to receive your free treat.

Sweet Treats of the Carolinas Festival:

The festival hours will be 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The finish line for the festival will be right in the center of the festival. This will be a great after party as you finish the race. There will be art and craft vendors, music, Pageant, Eating Contest, food, drinks, activities for the kids, and of course Sweet Treats from several shops in North Carolina.

 Proceeds:

The proceeds for this event go to the Kiwanis Club of McDowell County. This club helps our local community throughout the year in a variety of different events.


McDowell Race Series


New for 2019 is the McDowell Race Series. This is a 4 part race series that will be held throughout the year during the following events.

Sweet Treats 5k (April 20, 2019)
Bigfoot Festival’s Bigfoot 5k (September 14, 2019)
Boos and Brews 5K (October 19, 2019)
New Year's Eve Resolution Run 5k (December 31, 2019)

Each race will have it’s own personal twist, it’s own course, a custom race shirt, and race specific finisher medal. All the medals will link together and bare the McDowell Race Series logo.


You may choose to run only some of the race series, but you will only earn the medals and points for each completed race. Your participation and placement in the individual races will determine your points. In January 2020 we will hold an award ceremony and award the overall awards for male and female in the for the McDowell Race Series as well as the leaders in each age group. Your age group for the series will be based on your age at the first race on April 20, 2019.


Scoring

Male and Female’s will be awarded the following points for each race for the McDowell Race Series.

Overall Winners

1st Place: 10 Points

2nd Place: 8 Points

3rd Place: 6 Points


Age Groups

1st Place: 4 Points

2nd Place: 3 Points

3rd Place: 2 Points

All other finishers: 1 Point


There will be no double dipping in points or awards.
