Short review
21st annual meditative and serene run and is a Boston Qualifier (among others). All races are run on the grounds of historic Camp Roberts Army National Guard Reservation, just north of San Miguel, California. Out-and-back course on paved road with dirt and packed gravel shoulders. Flat to gentle rolling hills, with breathtaking views of oak-studded hillsides, Salinas and Nacimiento Rivers and abundant Central Coast wildlife. Some compare course to a trail run. Start line is at 620' at corner of Arizona and Ave 14 and rises to 945' at the marathon turn-around spot. You will truly enjoy this event!
COURSE ( #CA19003RS) 2019- we designed a new course and had it certified for another 10 years. This course runs a loop of the cantonment, drops down a small hill and cuts over to Perimeter Rd then out to General's Rd and back in repeating the cantonment loop in reverse. Due to troops training our HQ will be ash Liberty Hall next to the Museum Annex while the start/finish remains at 14th and Arizona.
COVID Note: No one allowed indoors (other than small groups in the two museums) and masks a must except while running. Hand sanitizer available and social distancing will be monitored by base commander and her security team.
Child care available by request. If your child is in the mile run for the under age 12's we will get them to start line and pickup from the finish. Museum and annex open during race and some military vehicles for viewing/climbing.
SECURITY NOTE: To enter this federal facility you will need driver's license, car registration, and proof of insurance (rental agreement works if you have a rental). Foreign nationals will need to send copies of passport, photo id/drivers license to the base security DPO (or race director) by February 5, 2021 for vetting. Everyone entering base will be asked to sign a "Hold Harmless" Agreement at security checkin. Try to checkin on Friday as it takes about 10 minutes to process unless you are in the system from last year then it will be 3-5 minutes.
Book lodging early! This is a weekend wine country destination (as well as big 4H/FFA Western Bonanza at the Midstate Fairgrounds in a normal year) so rooms fill early.
