Short review

This year marks the 20th anniversary of 9/11. The Red Cross wants to give the community an opportunity to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live. The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is not a timed race event and you will have from August 11th to September 11th to complete your personal stair climb. The route includes sets of stairs on Minick Field to complete the 110 flights completed by the firefighters. Your individual tribute not only remembers the sacrifice of an FDNY brother, but symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others.

Please like and follow our Facebook page to reference the field image: Baumholder American Red Cross - Minick Field has 8 sets of stairs. Each stairwell will be climbed up and back down with the adjacent stairwells to follow. Once one side of the field is completed, you will walk to the opposite side and complete the 4 sets of stairs in the same fashion as before. You will complete all 8 sets of stairs 13 times to fulfill the 2,071 steps/110 flights.

If you are unable to complete the stairclimb at Minick Field, there are other options available to you! You can always go to the gym and use the StairMaster, or you can run/walk 2 miles which is the equivalent of the 2,071 steps/110 flights taken. Feel free to add 30 extra pounds in a back pack to emulate the weight of the gear the firefighters wore.

If you register for the event you will receive a t-shirt commemorating the 20th anniversary. We would love for our participants to send us photos before, during, or after the challenge to post on our Facebook to show the community our tribute. In addition, we will send out maps of the full route and have route markers posted.
