25th Running of the Annual ADVICE 5K Turkey Trot 2021

Turkey Trotters of all ages and abilities -- Champions for Community -- get ready to celebrate the 25th Running of the Annual ADVICE 5K Turkey Trot! In 2021, our beloved community event will offer both a LIVE/IN-PERSON and VIRTUAL option for runners and walkers wanting to celebrate Thanksgiving by doing a whole lot of good!  

The ADVICE 5K is all about FUN & PHILANTHROPY -- for our trotters, our volunteers, flocks of friends and families, and our entire community too -- and in 2021 we'll be creating a 25th anniversary celebration you won't want to miss! Our 25th Anniversary will kick off with a Community Concert on the Town of Duck Green (Wednesday, November 24th) featuring Mama’s Black Sheep and the Intangible Cats.  Come Thanksgiving Morning, it’ll be time to lace up the kicks for the 25th time -- running fast or slow, wobbling (even wagging) – in a community event that’s as traditional as pumpkin pie!

The ADVICE 5K is a non-sanctioned run/walk suitable for all ages and abilities. As is tradition, INFAMOUS PUMPKIN "TROPHY PIES" made by baker-extraordinaire Chris Carroll of Sweater Box Confections are awarded to our first female & male runners (both adult & youth U10) along with our first walker. There are no other competitive awards or age group recognitions for our event. The ADVICE 5K is "old school" -- NOT professionally timed or chipped, with finish times only monitored until our "Pie Winners" cross the Finish Line!  

LIVE/IN-PERSON participants registering no later than 9/15 can look forward to a locally designed & screen-printed long sleeve event tee, a pair of customized socks from DeFeet, our 2021 specialized GREATY bag including a 25th Anniversary commemorative Finisher's Gift in addition to a post-race festivities & prizes [post-race event subject to change due to COVID-19]. 

VIRTUAL participants registering no later than 9/15 will receive their tee, sox, and SWAG via USPS ahead of the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend. Bibs & Finisher’s Certificates will be available via digital downloads and plus fun via RACEJOY, a free app for cheer-sending and more.

If our LIVE/IN-PERSON event cannot be held due to COVID-19, we will move to an entire VIRTUAL EVENT. Should this happen after registration opens (9/7/21), anyone registered for the LIVE/IN-PERSON event will be automatically transferred to the VIRTUAL event -- registration fees will NOT be refunded. 

Come November, if you cannot attend the LIVE/IN-PERSON due to COVID-19, you can transfer to the VIRTUAL event (11/10/21 deadline). We are urging ALL PARTICIPANTS who can be vaccinated do so in time for our Thanksgiving Day event. DO NOT attend the event if you are sick or have recently been exposed to COVID-19. We will continue to monitor public health guidance and best practices for races, providing updates on additional requirements or modifications that may result from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Net proceeds from help grow a permanent charitable endowment established in its name (the Annual ADVICE 5K Turkey Trot Fund) that is managed by the Outer Banks Community Foundation to assure that community health projects benefiting the Outer Banks will forever be funded. Since the endowment’s creation, the Annual ADVICE 5K Turkey Trot Fund has helped to fund grants to Outer Banks non-profits including the Hatteras Island Community Emergency Response Team, Interfaith Community Outreach, Community Care Clinic of Fare, OBX GO FAR, among others.  As our event has grown over 25 years, so has its capacity for doing long-lasting good for our community!
