2021 CANTE TINZA 100 Challenge partially a fund raiser for MMIW USA.  If you wish to support MMIW USA though not with this challenge here is a link directly to them to learn more and donate to them directly outside of this challenge: Missing Murdered Indigenous Women

2021 CANTE TINZA 100 is a personal challenge that you can join online, log your real world hours or miles with you horse or on your own power.  You can walk, run, bike, hike, drive a carriage, ground drive or for this challenge since it is your choice miles or hours you can do ground work with your horse also.   It is important to point out that these WARHORSE Endurance Challenges are part of my business and we choose to partner with and give a portion of the entry to often a variety of causes not only to raise $$$$ for them though also to raise awareness of what organizations like MMIW USA are standing for and trying to do.  This cause was brought to my attention by a participant in another challenge and I decided to create this event to honor the missing women and children and to support MMIW USA who also supports the families of the missing.
More about the Challenges and how it works; Your Challenge at Your Pace; for this challenge you decide if you will log hours or miles.
You decide, ride as little as one mile at a time or divided the mileage into three days per week or a few short rides during the week followed by a few extra miles of adventure on the weekend.
The idea is motivation and momentum in a goal for you and your horse to achieve your milestone of 100 hours or miles. You set your pace, the days, the time/ miles and if you aim for 25 per week you will be finding yourself at 100 miles by the end of the month!  Or you can add up the miles over several weeks!  You decide what is right for you and your horse to create those 100 miles or hours of memories with together.

Here is a list of frequently asked questions:

CAN I TRACK RESULTS ONLINE?
Yes, online tracking on our page is an option, though it is just that, one option. You can also track in your favorite fitness app, on a calendar or in a notebook. You can track your mileage on this website under the "RESULTS" tab of your challenge.  *You will not show up under 'Participants' until you track your first miles under 'Submit Virtual Results'.
Use of online tracking under the results tab is optional.  Some participants track their miles in a notebook, on a calendar or in a tracking app.

ARE THERE PLACINGS?
Yes and no.  While it may look like there are placings under results, there really are not because not everyone starts at the same time and also not everyone chooses to track online- and people update their hours/ miles at different times.  Some daily, some weekly, some only at the end of the challenge.  So, no, there really are no true placings.  Although this is categorized on this sign up page as a virtual race, the only winners are you & your horse spending time together gaining experience, fitness, friendship and miles.  This is a challenge, not a race.

WHAT DO I RECEIVE FOR COMPLETION?
There was a lot of thought and work that went into the custom art made for this event. From that art we have ordered a medal, an embroidered patch and a pin to commemorate the100 miles  or hours you have achieved with your horse or run/walking on your own.  Many participants are putting the patch on a jacket, saddle pad or on their pommel bags.

WHAT MILES COUNT?
We are happy to say that this motivational challenge is open to riders, carriage drivers, those walking with their horses!  And it is also open to hikers, runners and cyclists! We even have had someone roller blading the 100 miles.  CANTE TINZA is one of the few challenges that we allow also hours instead of miles and that is reflected in the neck ribbon and medal that read CANTE TINZA 100

CAN I USE MORE THAN ONE HORSE?
The answer is YES!  Though you only get the one medal and one patch per sign up!  We are creating this Challenge to encourage each other and set goals in measurable 100 mile or 100 hour increments.
CAN I COMBINE MY PERSONAL RUNNING TIME OR MILES WITH RIDING TIME / MILES TO REACH 100 GOAL FASTER?
What do you want the medal to signify to you? If you would like the medal to symbolize all of your miles with one horse, then you count just the miles with one horse.  Would you like it to symbolize how many active miles you had then you can absolutely count run/walk/ride  time or miles all together.

ARE THE MILES RETROACTIVE?
No, they are not.  The nature of a challenge is for what you are going to do once you accept it, not what you did two months ago.  So your miles start tracking on the day you sign up.

DOES ARENA RIDING COUNT?
Yes, if you are riding in a standard to large arena.

WHERE DOES THE ENTRY FEE MONEY GO?
I have long believed in the "Pay it Forward" theory in life and often add a cause or a charity to an event that I create. For the CANTE TINZA 100 Challenge we have spoken with and partnered with MMIW USA so that they may receive $5.00 of each entry fee.   With every challenge that my business runs, many of them we choose a charity to give to, though not always.   Though often I do get one person who will question the cost of the entry fee and question why only $5.00 goes to the charity.  And to that I ask you to realize that is like asking me to donate my entire salary for the year- which is not something I would ask of anyone. I could run the event without choosing a charity, although I do love give, and I also still have a family to take care of.

WHAT IS THE MEANING BEHIND CANTE TINZA 100 Challenge?
CANTE TINZA 100 is a new challenge this year and will donate $5 from each entry to MMIW- Missing Murdered Indiginous Women  https://mmiwusa.org   Today I spoke with Debra from MMIW, she loves the artwork and is happy to have us partnering with them. CANTE TINZA (chun-tay t-een-zah) is Lakota for Brave Heart (Cante/heart tinza/brave/strong)  The artwork that I had commissioned had to have a horse in it, so I hope none of you mind that I picked Joey for this one. To me it symbolized not only that in part my horses have been carrying these challenges forward, though that also you (especially the initial 500 WARHORSE participants) have all helped us through that toughest time losing our Appaloosa gelding Houdini to EPM last year. Joey is the yearling colt that we purchased last November and since I had to pay to have a custom art created I wanted to use Joey as he symbolized the love, support and hope this group has shown my family.  And also, Joey is sired by a foundation Appaloosa and out of a paint mare, I believe he has a lot of history running in his veins.  ABOUT THE PAINTED SYMBOLS ON THE WARHORSE:
I put a lot of thought into what would be on the warhorse, the symbols, the colors and I wanted to share with you what I found that they mean and why I choose the colors of paint that I did. It is unlikely that the medal can be full color, though the patch will be as close as they can make it.

I had been at a loss on what to name this challenge and called Tara LeRoy for suggestions. Turns out she had the perfect one, as her mother had named one of their horse's Cante Tinza, this is Lakota for Brave Heart. Please use the hashtags on Instagram and FB #cantetinza100challenge #warhorse_endurance
The reason I chose a heart instead of an arrowhead is that this art is to symbolize that MMIW USA is fighting with all of the things symbolized in this warpaint, and that I pray all of these things for these women, to escape ambush, to have success in battle, that their mission will be carried out, that they will have vengeance on their enemy, we recognize their mourning, that we hope for them purity, light and sharing of information to find these women/children/youth, we wish them love, happiness, intellect and determination as we join our WARHORSES in together to ride along side of them and help them in their journey to find those who have been stolen. And the heart at the place of the arrow head? Is because we fight back with banding together in love, not in violence. I know, I overthink things. Though this image means a lot to me, as does MMIW USA. WHAT IF I AM NOT IN THE USA?  CAN I STILL I AND GET THE MEDAL?
The cost of this challenge includes shipping of the medal to USA only.
If you are outside of the USA you will be mailed the embroiled patch only. UNLESS you request to have the medal shipped outside of the USA at your cost.
For international participants we mail an embroidered patch of the same size and design of the medal.  Thank you for understanding that if I paid for the international shipping it would cost me far more than what the sign up fee is and I cannot do that.  Due to some unpaid international shipping, shipping of outside of USA requested medals will not be shipped unless the invoice for shipping is paid ahead quickly.
