2020 Red Shoes Run - Virtual Race 5K 2024

Short review

Out of an abundance of concern about the health and safety of our sponsors, participants, volunteers and staff, and in light of recent events surrounding COVID-19, we will be transitioning Red Shoes Run to a virtual 5K.   

The Ronald McDonald House is still open and continues to serve families throughout the Coastal Empire that have a critically ill or injured child in our local children’s hospital and nearby facilities.  We see this event as an opportunity to show our strength during a challenging time, and a chance to get out of our home to run across the streets and squares of Savannah with our virtual community, all in support of the Ronald McDonald House and the Families and Children we serve.

How will a virtual run work? As a virtual 5K, you select your race course. You can walk, run, or use a treadmill.  The race will be held Friday, April 10th – Sunday, April 12th.  You choose which day you want to run or run multiple days. Instead of gathering at the Ronald McDonald House and running the campus of Memorial Health, we encourage you to run 3.1 miles individually, wherever you are. Different streets. Same weekend. Same mission.  

We will be recognizing all registered participants same as past Red Shoes Run events.  Awards will be given out to all age categories; including overall winners and all registered participants will receive a packet pick up gift bag.  In fact, since we are now going virtual, please encourage your runner friends to join the fun.  During the race, we want to see you running on Facebook, Instagram, and cheering for other runners.  Post you pictures on #redshoesrun and tag us on Facebook at  www.facebook.com/rmhccoastalempire. 

Contests! We also encourage you to be creative.  We will have prizes for the following contests; Best RMHC Theme, Best Easter Theme, and  Best Social Distancing Team.

How to submit your time? We will be emailing you a link the week of the race to submit your time.  All race times need to be submitted by midnight Sunday. You can run multiple days if you choose, however your best time will be recorded for your age group and overall times. Click here to submit your race time.

By joining us in this virtual run, you are supporting our Families and Children during this challenging time.  Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire is a nonprofit organization that provides a home away from home for families of critically ill and injured children who are seeking treatment at our local children’s hospital or a nearby medical facility.  In 2019, RMHC provided 4974 family night stays, served an additional 3,400 families with their two-family rooms, and provided dental services and education to 2700 children between the ages of 3-11.
